Reconnect with nature in the Bois Saint-Martin

Take time out from touring the city to enjoy a breath of fresh air in the Bois Saint-Martin, a forest covering almost 300 hectares, 30 minutes from the capital.

After being private and closed to visitors for many years, the Bois Saint-Martin is now open to all nature-lovers. Situated a mere 30 minutes from the centre of Paris, it is the perfect spot for a day's walking in the forest. You will find a wealth of flora and fauna to admire amongst the large plains which are unique in the region, ponds and bogs which are home to several species of amphibians, lizards and plants, and virtually untouched undergrowth. The forest, which is almost as vast as New York's Central Park, is protected as a “sensitive natural area” and is also developing fun and educational activities for young and old. Nature enthusiasts can explore the biodiversity of the forest massif on their own or by taking advantage of one of the guided tours offered by the nature conservation organisations.
The Bois Saint-Martin is located primarily in the commune of Noisy-le-Grand in Seine-Saint-Denis and is easily reached from the RER station Les Yvris. This is served by Line E (towards Tournan), which departs from Saint-Lazare station. Two other entrances are located in the nearby towns of Villiers-sur-Marne and Plessis-Trévise, in Val-de-Marne. A rare green lung, providing the perfect escape from the hustle-bustle of the city.
