Payment methods and surcharges explained

You can choose from various payment methods for your flight reservation, depending on the time of the booking. But whichever method you choose, you can rest assured that your payment is always safe.

Ever wondered how the price of your ticket is made up? Many passengers are unclear as to the real cost of a ticket and exactly how high the surcharges are. With this in mind, Air France has now made the price structure of its tickets more transparent. Below you will find an overview of the various costs, taxes and surcharges.

Payment options

Credit card

You can pay by credit card when booking a ticket at airfrance.be. We accept MasterCard, VISA, American Express, Diners Club and UATP card. After you have selected your flight, choose ‘credit card´ under the payment options. Next, select the organization that issued the credit card. Enter all necessary details and confirm your booking. Once your payment has been authorized, you will be sent an e-ticket by e-mail.

Security

Your payment details will be encoded and sent using a secure connection. You can check the security details by clicking with your right mouse button on the payment page and then selecting ‘Properties´. A window will pop up containing all connection data. The ‘Connection´ field shows that an SSL connection is used. Your credit card information, including the number and expiration date, will not be stored.

Verified by Visa and MasterCard Secure Code

Some banks offer holders of Visa or MasterCard an additional security measure in the form of a PIN code or password. This tells both the bank and us that you are the rightful owner or user of the card. If your card is eligible for the ‘Verified by Visa´ or ‘MasterCard Secure Code´ security measure, you will be asked to enter your PIN code or password. The payment will only be accepted if the correct code or password is entered.

If your bank offers this extra security measure but your card is not yet part of this programme, your bank may ask during the payment process if you wish to subscribe to this security option. This is called ‘Activation During Shopping´ and we have no influence on this process. Participation in Verified by Visa or MasterCard Secure Code takes place through a direct link to your bank. KLM has no access or control over this information. Once you have signed up for this service, you can complete your booking. For more information on Verified by Visa or MasterCard Secure Code, we recommend contacting your bank.

Credit card surcharge to compensate for rising costs

More and more air travellers are using a credit card to pay for their tickets. This increasing credit card usage has resulted in rising costs for Air France. To compensate for these costs, we are forced to charge a surcharge of € 7,5 per person (with the exception of infants) for tickets booked by credit card.

Of course, you can continue to use other - free - payment methods as well, such as debit card or the payment option "direct online banking", a once-only authorisation. The surcharge applies to all credit cards.

Debit card

You can pay for your booking at airfrance.be using a debit card (bank pass). Participating card services in Belgium are Visa Debit and Maestro/Bancontact. No fees apply to payments made with a debit card. For questions on the online use of your Visa Electron (3D Secure) card, we recommend contacting your bank.

Once your payment by debit card has been authorized, you will be sent your e-ticket by e-mail.

Online Banking

Online banking, also known as ‘Real Time Online Banking´ (RTOB), allows you to shop online safely and easily. Payment by RTOB is free of charge at airfrance.be.

After you have selected your flight, choose the payment method "online banking", you will be redirected to your bank online, to validate the payment. Direct E-banking is a type of real-time online banking. Enter all required information. Once payment has been confirmed, the amount will be debited from your account. Once the bank informs us that payment has been made, we will send your e-ticket to you by e-mail. With online banking, you pay through our partner KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

Surcharges

Please find herewith an overview of all our charges

Reservation fees

A reservation fee is charged for booking an Air France ticket, the amount of which depends upon the reservation method. The cheapest option is to make a reservation via airfrance.be, where there is no fee. Booking your flight by phone via Air France Reservations costs €15 per ticket. Meanwhile, tickets booked at any Air France Ticket Office are subject to a €25 fee per ticket. In short, it pays to use airfrance.be to book your flight!

Fuel Surcharge

The price of kerosene is currently high and subject to major fluctuations. This situation has obliged Air France to levy a fuel surcharge on all its flight tickets. The supplement is calculated per flight, so it is charged on both the outbound and return trips as well as any intermediate flights.

Security surcharge

The security surcharge amounts to € 8 per segment flown (Brussels Midi station to Paris CDG station & vv) is levied for insurance and security measures.
